breckenridge night 211x200Please let us share a bit of historical information about our beautiful home town and favorite ski resort. Breckenridge was originally a mining town, where gold was discovered in the summer of 1859 along the Blue River. Our town contains more than 350 historic structures, making it the largest historic district in the state of Colorado. One of the most popular historic sites is The Gold Pan Saloon, established in 1859. Located at 103 North Main Street in Breckenridge, it is the oldest continuously operated bar West of the Mississippi and a favorite local's haunt.

Short of The Gold Pan Saloon a lot of things have changed since Breckenridge was founded. In December 1961 the Breckenridge Ski Area officially opened for business. Over the years many improvements and expansions have occurred, making Breckenridge Ski Area consistently one of the most popular, family oriented and highly rated resorts in North America. Today the resort is extremely conscious of the environment and strives to be as efficient as possible, while still serving its customers to experience a trip of a life time. To learn more about the resort's conservation efforts, please visit their website: www.breckenridge.com and check out the Environment tab.

ice sculpture 151x200If you're here in January you must join the locals at the Ullr Fest - an annual wacky winter festival like no other. In Norse mythology Ullr (pronounced Oool-er) was the winter god. He was the son of Sif and the stepson of Thor, the "God of Thunder." Ullr loved the cold, and delighted in traveling over the country on his skis or skates. Events include the ever popular and fun Ullr parade on Main Street and other fun events. If you are visiting in the spring, you have to join in the Spring Massive festivities - another annual event. This end of season event features competitions, entertainment, family fun, comedy nights, nightlife, exhibitions, a beer festival, food, special snow skiing and snowboarding events, film shoots, and great concert line ups. Check out what's going on at: www.springmassive.com. Every year we also host the Budweiser International Snow Sculpture Championships. You can see some great photos of the event at www.townofbreckenridge.com.

For a nice dinner, please be sure to stop by Modis, The Hearthstone or The Briar Rose. If a casual dinner with the kids is in order, check out Downstairs at Eric's - the kids will love the arcade gallery and everyone will enjoy the many big screen TVs and the great menu.

If your plan is to paint the town, there are many places that will accommodate you. Dance the night away at The Salt Creek or Cecilia's or mingle at the martini bar at The Blue River Bistro, all conveniently located on Main Street. If live music is what you're after, check out 320South on Main Street. For a safe ride home, please check out the Summit Stage www.summitstage.com and the Breckenridge FREE RIDE www.townofbreckenridge.com.

For those of you who are interested in shopping and site seeing, we have you covered. On Ridge Street you will find the Breckenridge Arts District, loaded with artists in residence, classes and galleries. There are shops on every corner with unique and different items for everyone. Also available are dog sled and snowmobile tours as well as snowshoe hikes. Before you leave for home, be sure to pick up a Breckenridge Ski Shop hat, T-shirt or sweatshirt for your friends at home.
